Baby Season...
Is it just me or does it feel like everyone around here is having a baby?

My best friend, Julie, just had baby number 2 earlier this week. My cousin, Jennifer, is expecting as well as a few other folks I know.

Must be something in the water.
Or the Halloween candy.

Anyway, I am in need of doing something fun for my BFF's newest edition (photos to come next week!!). To protect their privacy, I won't give away all the details, but his given name is Ezekiel, but is going by Zeke.

I want to do something a little fun for the baby. It isn't like baby #1 where you need everything. So, there is no need to stock up on passies, socks, burp cloths and the like.

For Julie's baby #1, I made a very cute counted cross stitch growth chart.
Needless to say, I'm a slacker and did not do this for the little man.
Besides, baby #1 was a girl and that's more fun. Baby #2 will look at that and say, "really?"

I want to do something special (more than my standard gifts of onesies & books).

Give me some ideas people....

I'm not sure about your beliefs or the parents', but if I am very close to the family, I personally like to buy the baby's first little Bible and have their name put on the front, if that has already been determined. Another thing I have done in the past was buy a savings bond. Since I have been very ill, I'm not sure how these are doing right now.

Good luck!

Another reason why knitting comes in handy... making baby stuff is so easy & fun...

but something I've seen at the 100 baby showers I've got to latey, is to get the letters of the babies name & de-coupage them with different papers for each letter that matches the room... & then you can even add embelishments... very cute & easy gift to make!

I was going to suggest having his name painted on a canvas to match his room... they are all over the internet...good luck!

I just don't think it gets any better than books. But, that's just the reader in me!
Dropped by from SITS.

My standard gift, because I can't sew, is one of these tied fleece blankets. Maybe they are no longer the "in" thing, but they are great to put on the floor because they are double layered. They also work well to put over the car seat when you carry them too and from the car, and when they get bigger, they can snuggle in bed with them. They only take an hour or so to make and if you get the fleece on sale, they are under $25.

Might I suggest a "just us" people family portrait custom made by yours truly?

When I had my baby i loved getting any kind of gift, but the most useful would be a basket full of baby products such as baby wash, wipes, shampoo, dipers, skin care for mum, couple of books. Other then that a very creative thing I got was a baby clothing bouquet -http://www.babycupcakes.com/babybouquets.html - this is an Australian website but i'm sure you can find it over there as well!

A framed letter written to baby about why his mama is so wonderful.

And maybe a tube of "Butt Paste".
