A Pancake as Big as a Pizza (seriously!)

Before I get to the pancake, I want to share our photos from Buckingham palace.

To preface this:
We went on Monday, after Westminster (and after the hotel mishap-miss the bike tour-Italian tourists cut in line-drama)

As I mentioned before, it was pouring rain.
We walked to Buckingham palace....in the pouring rain.
We stopped for lunch and it finally quit raining.
Rain.  In a nutshell = depressing.

A photo of my wet and soggy shoes.
To go along with my wet-and-soggy attitude that day.

So!  About Buckingham Palace.
It's big.
There's a lot of gold embellishments.
The guards are so far away that you can't poke fun at them.
If the Union Jack is flying overhead, the Queen is not home.

That's about it in a nutshell.

The balcony where William and Kate had their first kiss as a married couple.

Me, at the gate in front of the palace, with the balcony behind me.

See?  Gold embellishments...

More fancy gold stuff....

And a bit more....

We also admired the Queen Victoria fountain which was behind us, just outside of the main gate of the palace.  Even on a cloudy day, it still stood out as rather impressive.  I will admit, anyone who can carve stone like that is quite talented.

While we were at the palace, we did see the guards relieve each other of duty.  It is a lot of pomp and circumstance, for sure.  But still pretty impressive to watch.  I did get some good action shots with the camera!

This was not the "Changing of the Guard".  This sign is placed inside the palace gate so that people understand what is going on.  Which is nice, because if you didn't know any better, you'd think THIS was indeed, the changing of the guard!

After we made our way back to the hotel for the day, we needed to find dinner.  We walked about a mile and we came to this:

There was a line out the door.  Anyone knows a line out the door means that it's decent food.

Scratch that.
It was FREAKIN' AMAZING.

The line out the door?  It was because every Monday they have a special--all pancakes $5 (insert "pounds" for "dollars").

FIVE POUNDS?  I'm all over that!

I ordered a pancake with ham and fresh apple.  THIS is what I got.

Ya'll.
This thing may look small.  But Holy Moses.  This thing was as big as a large pizza.  It was massive!  The pancake, though, wasn't like our pancakes here in the States.  They were very thin, like a French crepe, and had a VERY light texture.  Mine came with a little bit of maple syrup and it was the perfect combination of sweet and savory all mixed into one.

The end result:

I couldn't finish it.
I was STUFFED at this point and had to walk away.

So.
Even though it rained.
Even though the Italian tourists cut in line.
Even though we missed the bike tour.
Even though we had a crappy nights sleep Sunday onto Monday.
Even though it was a blah-weather-day.

THIS little gem of a dinner made those all disappear.

Up next.....Tower of London

love the statue - is that Queen Victoria?

That pancake looks amazing! I'd love to have seen your face when they brought it out though :)
