I Was in Bed by 8:30....
This is no joke.

Last night, I was in bed by 8:30 p.m.. I was, in a word, exhausted.

Why is that you ask? Did I exercise my tail off? Do mega amounts of hard, physical, labor? Chase cute kiddos around all day?

I wish. At least then I wouldn't feel so guilty eating that muffin this morning.

Come closer. I want to fill you in on a little secret.

I'm an introvert.

I said, I'm an introvert.

Oh....for crying out loud....I'M AN INTROVERT!

Yes. Yes it's true. I'm a big, ol' introvert. On the Meyers Briggs scale....I don't even come close to hugging the middle of the line between extrovert and introvert.

So, how does being an introvert make me tired? Oh. Let me tell you. You see...I often times have to put on my big girl panties, slap a smile on my face and fake it all day. I have to be in a decent mood, excited to work with my students, helpful to my co-workers, etc. etc. etc.

When you do that all day, it gets tiring. I call it, being "on".

In fact, when I get home, I often have to ask the Big Guy for just 10 minutes of peace and quiet. While I'm happy he asks me, "...how are you? How was your day? What's for dinner?", I can't deal with that when I walk in the door.

Yesterday was no exception. I had to do a training session with my fellow senior academic advisors about facilitation--or being a leader of a group. I have planned this thing for 3 weeks. I wasn't nervous--I can speak in front of a large crowd with no problem--but just wanted it to go well. We won't even go into the computer issues that this conference room had and how that about threw me over the edge.

But after a 2 hour training, dealing with a student drama, advising appointments, and the like--I was worn out.

I got home and told the Big Guy--you're on your own for dinner. I sat down on the couch and didn't move for an hour. I made myself a little whole wheat pasta with fresh tomatoes and a touch of olive oil and crawled into bed at 8:30.

I felt like I was a 2nd grader all over again.

I loved it.

Going to bed early-priceless.

Ha! When it comes to Meyers Briggs I'm an E-N-F-P. No introvert tendencies here...at all. I'm the loud one who wants to go first and be in charge. It's a whole other kind of exhausting..as in I wear out other people. :)

Except for the being exhausted part, which I can't seem to avoid these days, going to bed at 8:30 sounds like the perfect evening to me. Second graders have it made!

I get it... sometimes it hard to be "on" all the time... that can be exhausting!

Poor baby.. hugs your way.

Jason, as himself said...

I'm an introvert, too, in many situations. It's painful sometimes. But in other situations I'm pretty much the extrovert.

Maybe this explains why I fell into blogging to easily.
